Cisco Childcare and Life Connections Center
Certified LEED Gold
The Cisco Childcare and Life
Connection center in San
Jose, California, provides
clinic, childcare and fitness
services to employees at the
Cisco Campus. The project
saves more than 40 percent
of water use below the EPAct
plumbing code, more than
25 percent lighting power
density below the ASHRAE baseline, and achieved all of the low-emitting materials LEED points for non-toxic paints, coatings,
carpet, composite wood and systems furniture.
Because of the unique nature of the facility, the design
team focused on creating a healthy indoor environment, so an emphasis was placed on carbon
dioxide monitoring, all non-toxic finishes, and daylighting wherever possible; skylights bring in as
much light as possible in common spaces. The building is accessible via public transportation (the
VTA lightrail system) and bus lines, which help reduce the carbon impact of building staff and visitor
transportation. The project is a landmark facility for Cisco Systems for its unique programming,
educational capacity and outreach.
