Brewery Block 4: M Financial

Certified LEED Gold

Part of the 5-city block Brewery Blocks urban redevelopment on the site of the old Blitz Weinhard brewery in Northwest Portland's Pearl District. Brightworks took on management of the LEED programs for Block 1 (Whole Foods), Block 2 (Cellar House), and Block 4 midway through the development process.

The M Financial building's sustainability strategies include building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), an eco-roof and high thermal comfort and daylight and views for building occupants. The project also achieved an impressive 30% recycled content percentage in building materials, 40% regional manufacturing of building materials and 95% diversion of construction waste from landfills to reduce building contributions to the waste stream. The project's energy strategies resulted in M Financial winning Portland General Electric's Earth Advantage Award for 2002.
